⚙️The Simple Habit That Can Transform Your Life

Hey Awesome Friend!

Let's dive into the scripture:

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.

Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff
    that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Psalm 1:1-6

Explanation:

This passage sets the stage with a simple but powerful contrast: the righteous vs. the wicked.

It kicks off with a list of don’ts for the blessed person~

Don’t take advice from the wicked, don’t hang out with sinners, and don’t chill with scoffers. 🙅‍♂️🙅‍♀️

Instead, the blessed person is all about God’s law, soaking it in day and night.

Picture it Awesome Friend: a tree planted by water, thriving and fruitful. Meanwhile, the wicked are compared to chaff—worthless and blown away by the wind. This psalm ends with a clear message: God’s got the righteous on His radar, but the wicked are heading for trouble.

Insights:

So, what’s the secret sauce for being like that strong, flourishing tree? It’s all about where you’re rooted.

For us, that means being deeply rooted in Christ. Jesus is the living water that keeps us nourished and fruitful. When we delight in Him and His Word, we grow strong and steady, no matter what life throws at us (even that one flying cockroach in the room).

On the flip side, ignoring God’s way leaves us dry and aimless, like chaff blown away by the slightest breeze.

Application:

Here’s where the rubber meets the road...

How do we live this out? Start small.

Make it a habit to read a bit of the Bible every day. Think about it, chew on it, let it shape your thoughts and actions. And remember, it’s not just about avoiding the bad stuff, but filling your life with the good—God’s truth, love, and wisdom.

When you do, you’ll find yourself standing strong, like that tree, no matter what storms come your way. 🌴

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where am I rooted? In God’s Word or in worldly advice?

  2. How can I make meditating on God’s Word a daily habit?

  3. What areas of my life need more of God’s wisdom and less of the world’s influence?

Feel free to discuss with a friend.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for your Word that guides and nourishes me. Help me to delight in your teachings and to root myself deeply in your truth. Keep me strong and fruitful, like the tree by the water. Protect me from the influence of the wicked and guide me in the way of the righteous. Amen.

Remember, being like that strong tree isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection—staying close to God and His Word every day.

AI COMMERCIAL BREAK!

Umm yeahhh but, you’re not supposed to be a tree…

BIBLE SHOWER THOUGHTS (Bubble bath edition)

  1. If the heavens and skies are continuously proclaiming God's glory, what would it be like if we could understand the language of creation itself and hear its constant praise? (Psalm 19:1)

  2. If God is our shepherd and we lack nothing, does that mean our perception of scarcity is purely a human invention? (Psalm 23:1)

  3. What if the true delight in the Lord changes the desires of our hearts to align with His will, making His promises a self-fulfilling prophecy? (Psalm 37:4)
