Why Quiet Acts of Kindness Matter 🫶

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

2  “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3  But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4  so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Saturday Devotional:

Let's be real. Social media is flooded with acts of kindness and generosity.

A lot are shouting, "Look at me! I donated to charity!" or “For today's video, let's give X amount of food to these people.” ☹️

But Jesus, in Matthew 6:1-4, flips the script. He says, "Nope, that's not how we do it in God's Kingdom."

Jesus warns against practicing righteousness just for show. If your goal is to get applause from people, enjoy it while it lasts because that's all you're getting.

The true reward comes from God, who sees the heart behind your actions. 🫶

When you give, do it quietly. Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.

It’s about the intention, not the attention.

In Jesus' time, religious leaders often made a big deal about their charitable acts, hoping to earn admiration from others. Jesus calls this out as hypocrisy. He teaches that genuine generosity doesn't need a spotlight. It's between you and God.

When you give in secret, God sees it, and He’s the one who rewards you. The point?

Keep your motives pure. Don't seek human praise; aim for God’s approval.

Reflection Questions:

  1. When I give, am I seeking recognition from others or truly doing it out of love and obedience to God?

  2. How can I practice secret acts of kindness this week?

  3. What steps can I take to ensure my heart's motives are aligned with God’s will?

Prayer:

Lord, help us to give with pure hearts, seeking only Your approval. May our acts of kindness be a true reflection of Your love in us. Guide us to serve quietly and faithfully, knowing that You see all and reward what is done in secret. Amen.

Remember, real generosity doesn’t need an audience. God sees and values what’s done in secret. Let your acts of kindness be between you and Him.
